Description
The Cohen Curricula
Reading Comprehension, Language and Writing Resource: Classical Series 'The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe provides you and your students with a structured, sequential language study. The purpose of these resources is to develop student skills in reading comprehension, language identification, spelling and writing. Every activity in the resource has been mapped against the Australian Curriculum for both Year 7 and Year 8. The resource is not limited to any one state syllabus.
'The Raven' is an iconic classical text that is language-rich. The spelling, grammar and figurative language studies incorporated into this resource lead to a range of analytical and creative activities that focus on how language shapes meaning.
The study is sequential beginning with spelling lists, definition worksheets and suggestions for lessons students can engage in either as individuals or as a class. Context is explored in a prompted biographical study leading students to develop a deeper understanding of why composers write and how their work remains relevant well beyond the time in which it was produced.
Worksheets are embedded with glossaries for both figurative and grammatical language. A series of multiple choice style questions reinforce the research and learning students have completed around the vocabulary and language techniques. These questions also explore and invite discussions on inference. Answers are provided. Short answer questions are presented to begin extending students ability to express their point of view or to identify how meaning has been shaped by the mode of production or language agendas of the poet. Extended writing activities cover the range of experiences, letter writing, film making, debating, play script, narrative and exposition writing. To finish off the resource a series of spelling revision worksheets and our Grammar Snap game with language already prepared to photocopy and laminate are provided.
This resource is suitable for teachers wanting to embed a short term intensive study over four weeks or might be useful for relief teachers wanting a bank of work.
All our resources are instant download therefore we do not offer refunds if you have made a mistake or simply change your mind. Payments are processed through the PAYPAL portal.
